The vaseline is not to smother them exactly. It cuts off the
tick's air supply, so it backs out.

Tweezers will sometimes seperate the tick's butt from his head,
leaving the latter inside of your body and still causing problems.

I have heard people using Duct Tape like a lint-roller to remove
them.

I have had success holding the hot end of a lit cigarette about a
centimeter from the tick's butt. The heat will cause it to back out.

Sorry, but I don't know if this will post as a link or
not. This is from the CDC:

http://www.cdc.gov/ncidod/dvbid/lyme/ld_tickremoval.htm

They don't explain on this page why they say do not
use petroleum jelly, hot match, fingernail polish, etc
but I've read that this may cause the tick to
regurgitate which could increase your chance of
getting a tick borne disease.

I use sticky tape to remove ticks that are not
attached but may be hiding on my clothes or skin. I
wouldn't suggest using tape to remove an attached
tick. You are likely to leave the head. tweezers or
a tick removal "spoon" are your best bets. Just get
in there and do it. It's better to have it off you
than on whether you leave the head or not.

if they are dug in you have to light a match blow it out and touch their backs to get them to back out. other than that some sports stores sell tweezers specifically made for pulling out ticks, those seem to work very well. To: letterbox-usa@yahoogroups.comFrom: ellen4444@verizon.netDate: Thu, 7 Jun 2007 00:49:08 +0000Subject: [LbNA] How to people remove ticks when they have them on them
